Seed Order

Tomatoes, green beans, and watermelon OH MY! We have been organizing the seed order for the upcoming growing season. We take notes on varieties, yield, pest resistance and other details, per crop, during the growing season as well as suggestions from our CSA Members and apply this information to the following year’s seed order. We get the bulk of our seeds from 3 small, local companies which offer high quality, mostly organic seeds: @highmowingorganicseeds, @johnnys_seeds, and @fedcoseeds. While these seeds are often more expensive, we believe that knowing where your seeds come from and how they are treated is an essential beginning for delicious, healthy food. It is also part of a more holistic vision for a healthy food system. #csa #w#eatgoodfoodallyear

Pan di Zucchero

This week, the last of the Pan di Zucchero were prepped and sorted for Pickup. This nutritious chicory is an impressive storage vegetable. The leafy heads of these bitter greens were harvested in September and, after almost 4 months in storage, all they need is a few layers peeled off to revel their crisp, fresh insides. #csa #eatgoodfoodallyear #chicory #sugarloaf

Hens

In addition to the non-GMO, local grain and scratch we feed our laying hens, we also give them veggies scraps (which they love). These cabbage and chicory leaves, for example, come from prepping the storage vegetables for CSA Pickup each week. #csa #freerange #thanksfortheeggs #happyhens #eatgoodfoodallyear
